Unilever recalls damaged promotional mugs
Consumer goods giant Unilever South Africa has instituted a recall of promotional mugs given away in an instant soup offer after it was found that some handles had developed minor cracks that could compromise consumer safety.
A recent investigation has revealed that some of the promotional mugs in the 2012 Knorr CUP-A-SOUP “free mug” promotion had cracks on the handle.
Unilever said it treated this quality defect in some mugs very seriously as the cracks could cause the handles to break. Since the safety of consumers was paramount, the company has decided to end the promotion immediately, recall and destroy all of the mugs from stores as a precautionary measure.
Consumers who had already received the free promotional mugs have been advised to dispose of the mugs in a responsible manner.
Unilever confirms that the soup quality has not been affected by this incident.
Mugs from previous years “free mug” promotions have not been affected by the recall.
Unilever apologises for the inconvenience of the recall but believes that the safety of consumers comes first and foremost.
