Joining Unilever...
I joined Unilever 10 years ago. It was the only company I applied to join as an Engineer. I was set to travel over Africa and then came across an advert looking for Management Trainees or Graduate Engineers for a sought after training programme with a large multi national company. At the time I didn’t know it was Unilever but it interested me. When I heard it was Unilever I was pleasantly surprised because I have a lot of respect for them as a company.

Designing the largest warehouse in the Southern Hemisphere
About 18 months ago Unilever asked me to lead the design and build of two motherwarehouses for the distribution network. The one will be the biggest built in the Southern Hemisphere so it required me to come with my engineers skills and do some architectural work, logistics, design and civil engineering. This was something I’ve always been interested in as an engineer and architect so this was an opportunity to gain experience. It’s an awesome opportunity!

I applied and was recruited and learnt a lot. I’ve been moved around and have worked in most of the food factories in South Africa and have been relocated within Unilever about four times. This has given me the opportunity to learn and grow.
