Winning Women Recognised at BWA Regional Business Achiever Awards Gala Banquet!
Iconic women who have made excellent change leaders are acknowledged for their dedication and passion.
Antoinette Irvine, VP HR, was awarded the Business Executive of the Year Awardat a spectacular Gala Dinner at the Coastlands Hotel in uMhlanga on Wednesday, June 5 – held in celebration of the winners of the 2013 Regional Business Achiever Awards.
Now in its 12th year, the Regional Business Achiever Awards is spearheaded by the Durban regional branch of the Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa’s (BWASA) Chairperson, Farzanah Mall.
The Businesswomen’s Association said, “The Business Executive of the Year Award is given to a woman business executive director who is not only an outstanding business leader achieving phenomenal business success, but who has taken gender diversity into the boardroom and has driven gender issues at her workplace.”
Other guests of honour at the high profile event included KZN Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize; KZN First Lady and Special Award recipient Dr May Mkhize; CEOs and directors of major corporates; the US Consul General; as well as the CEO of the Richards Bay Coal Terminal and guest speaker for the evening - Nosipho Siwise Damasane.
The Regional Business Achiever Awards actively seek to identify, acknowledge, cultivate and recognise small businesses, professional practices, corporate and established entrepreneurs who have achieved excellence in their respective fields.
The evening’s function was themed ‘Iconic Women’ in celebration of outstanding leaders who have changed the course of history.
Special awards were also given to Dr May Mkhize, First Lady, who received the Lifetime Award. This accolade is awarded to a woman who has dedicated her life to the upliftment of women and children in the province. Dr May Mkhize is an incredibly generous woman who leads with humility. She lives to empower and enrich others, selflessly serving with kindness and compassion.
Amantha Maharaj, Owner of Thabile Engineering, received the Special Sponsor Award. This award recognises a woman-owned company that has given significant sponsorship to further support the strategy and mandate of the BWA. Amantha Maharaj is a charitable, kind and trustworthy woman. She is a great listener as well as an excellent role model and motivator.
